Golf cart backup power for hurricanes and outages

Zebra's six-seat electric golf carts, the Terrain 6 and Terrain 6 Pro, carry a solar roof and an 8,000-watt inverter. When a storm knocks out the power, you can plug in a refrigerator, fans, lights and phone chargers, with no gas and no fumes. The solar roof tops up the battery while the cart sits in the sun.

Before the storm

  1. Charge the cart to full when a storm is forecast.
  2. Park it where it is protected from wind and flying debris, such as a garage.
  3. Keep heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cords that can handle what you plan to plug in.
  4. Decide what comes first: usually the refrigerator, then fans, lights and phones.
  5. After the storm, when it is safe, park in the sun so the solar roof can top up the battery.

Questions

Which Zebra carts have backup power?

Both six-seat models, the Terrain 6 and Terrain 6 Pro, have the solar roof and the 8,000-watt inverter. The four-seat Breeze models do not.

What can I plug in?

Everyday essentials such as a refrigerator, fans, lights and phone chargers, plugged straight into the cart.

How long will it run?

It depends on what you plug in and how charged the battery is. Running fewer things at once makes the charge last longer.

Can it power my whole house?

No. Plug appliances directly into the cart. Never connect the cart to your home's wiring unless a licensed electrician has installed a proper transfer switch.

Does it need gas?

No. The cart is fully electric, so there is no fuel to store and no exhaust.
